Are You Interested in Career mentoring?
The Brick Township Chamber of Commerce Youth Career Mentoring Program is expanding. We are seeking business individuals who are interested in participating in this exciting and rewarding program.
The program presents career options and the exploration of the necessary skill sets needed to be developed in order for the student to achieve the credentials to pursue a particular chosen career. Not only will this experience give you a chance to contribute to a student’s educational development, but you will also benefit from this program. Carolyne Kalson has been mentoring students for the past two years. She has found that the students have offered valuable insight, computer skills and have brought a fresh perspective to her firm.
There are several different ways you can participate in this program. You can volunteer to:
1. Be available to speak to one of the high schools about your particular career and the path that needs to be taken to get there: this is an approximate 2 hour commitment.
2. You can agree to have a student spend one day at your work place for “job shadowing.” This would give the student a chance to see what a typical day is like in your business.
3. For a longer commitment: We are seeking individuals willing to career mentor for the school year through the Senior Seminar Program. In this program, the students must spend five hours per week at your place of business for the school year. This student is unpaid but can assist you in your work place duties and activities.
